Check Out Droneology!

In Fall of 2015, PCS Edventures and Thrust-UAV teamed up to produce a digital learning app to help all new drone pilots start flying safely. The brainchild was called Droneology, and thus everyone that completed the course is considered a ready to fly and informed pilot, also known as a Droneologist. The course covers topics such as safety, components of a drone, flight basics, rules and regulations, history of drones and where they will take us in the future.

You’ve probably seen the growing news coverage dedicated to the negative use of drones around the world, but have you thought about what good they can do? When used properly, drones can be used to transport necessary medical supplies to remote areas, help fight wild fires, survey land and agriculture, improve scientific research efforts and so much more. Droneology was developed with the hope to bring drones into a positive light, by creating safer pilots that know how to operate a drone.

Beyond operating a drone, the electronics of the bot can seem a bit scary at first, especially if you aren’t an Electrical Engineer! But have no fear, because Droneology also lays out quite simply the basics behind multirotor rigs. From flight controllers, to receivers, to ESCs and more, it brings the novice up to speed on the basics of a drone. In addition to learning the inner workings of a UAV, in order to complete Droneology training, the user has to master proper safety measures.

Before beginning to fly, it’s important to understand the controls and what could go wrong. Understanding how throttle, pitch, yaw and roll work with one another to steer a multirotor is difficult and requires practice, so Droneology encourages the use of a flight simulator before taking out a real drone! This reduces the risk of potential pilots crashing their first drone, which could cause harm and discourage the pilot from continuing with the hobby.

droneology1As a leader in STEM education, PCS Edventures uses this unique course to prepare hobbyists and students alike, as the world of FPV drone racing continues to grow in popularity. For more information on the app, and how to purchase, check out droneology.tech and get flying!
